Clay Armstrong was formerly a Managing Director at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (“CD&R”), a pioneering private equity firm focused on identifying, acquiring, and building leading global businesses. Over his 10+ years at the firm, Clay was involved in all aspects of the investment process: identification and sourcing, due diligence and execution, post-close business management, and investment monetization and exit. During his tenure at the firm, initially in New York before relocating to London to develop CD&R’s international operations, Clay was involved in the investment of billions of equity capital in large, multi-national businesses valued in the aggregate in excess of $20 billion. Clay focused on the industrial, business services, and aerospace sectors, acquiring market leaders with operations spanning North America, Western, Northern, and Eastern Europe, Australia, and Asia. Clay was also responsible for hiring and developing CD&R’s next-generation professionals in Europe. Prior to his tenure at CD&R, Clay began his direct investment career at Princes Gate Investors, then the in-house principal investment fund of Morgan Stanley, where he evaluated, acquired, and developed numerous mid-cap businesses operating in North America, Argentina, and Brazil. Prior to Princes Gate, Clay was a member of Morgan Stanley’s Generalist Mergers & Acquisitions group. Clay graduated with Highest Distinction as a BSBA Scholar from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Undergraduate Business School.
